Diagnosed with PTSD: Do’s and Don’ts


In our day to day lives, many of us face incidents that may be over-intensive, terrible, and beyond our control. For example, we can meet with a massive car crash, be the dupe of a physical attack, or an eye-witness to an accident.  Generally, people get over such things very quickly without requiring any help. While many a times, such trauma situations continue to disturb some of us for the coming days, months or years or even for whole life. If you or your close ones are experiencing such after effects of traumas, then they are suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD in short.

PTSD Treatment

The best method to cure PTSD is by simply continuing the regular day-to-day activities. The activities could be any like making new friends or contacting the older ones. It can also be something like continuing your job and performing other regular leisure activities that you think can help you come out of the traumatic traces. Daily exercising, playing sports, perusing a hobby can be of great help too. Following are some of the Do’s and Don’ts for people suffering from PTSD:

×        Harm yourself - PTSD symptoms are not a signal of failing. They are just the usual responses of ordinary individuals to frightening incidents.
         Retrieve your everyday life
×        Hide your emotions. If diagnosed with PTSD, tell someone you trust.   
         Discuss the incident with somebody you believe
×        Fear to discuss about it. PTSD can be treated successfully if caught on time.
         Undertake recreation methods
×        Miss your meals
         Continue your work as before
×        Anticipate a lot. Give time to yourself.
         Eat properly and exercise daily
×        Avoid meeting with people
         Visit the place of trauma
×        intake alcohol, coffee in excess or smoke more
         Spend time with friends & family
×        Suppose that the memories will fade away at once; they may disturb you for long.
         Be more cautious when driving –your focus may not be that good as before
×        Tire excessively
         Consult to doctor
×        Go on for holidays alone
         Hope to get back to normal life
